We advocate the learning of language through inquiry, allowing students to make connections with context, to explore and investigate. The learning of any language is developmental by nature, building constructively on what each individual student knows to help move them forward. At AGS, language is taught holistically. Each programme has specific learning outcomes for the strands of speaking and listening, reading and writing, and viewing and presenting appropriate to the students level. We promote inquiry-based authentic learning through an investigative approach of different genres.

In order to determine the language needs of each student, an informal interaction is held with parents at the Primary level. At other levels, interaction with the student gives an insight into the Language. Students are provided with ample opportunity to hone their skills in English speaking through group discussion, presentations, role-plays and peer interacting in classroom. Students are also encouraged to participate in interhouse debates and declamations and extempore speech Competitions to enchase their public speaking skills.


Students have access to a language lab which allows them to personalise their learning & improvise their language skills. Each and every student has a personalised user access to the online language portal, thereby allowing the teacher to assess & monitor the progress of each and every child. Writing Buddy introduces the writing process and demonstrates simple strategies to help students excel in writing. Through animated tutorials, language activities, and guided practices, students develop necessary writing skills easily. Oral Buddy equips students with clear strategies to tackle the three components of English Oral –reading aloud, picture discussion, and conversation. The step-by-step approach, with guided practices, helps students acquire oral skills and confidence.


The Dramatics & Media centre provide for a strong platform for the students to master their language skills. Students are encouraged to participate in the Dramas & Plays to showcase their oratory and presentation skills in different contexts.


Research embedded competencies are nurtured by using HEUMI and HEUX-the real time collaboration and communication tools deployed at AGS.Students can communicate in real- time using different tools & technologies adding to their creativity and confidence.
